To the collector of this work, thank you.
About this oil: This is a landscape that is about color. It is a composition that is about color. These are colors that are about color… at least that is what I began to understand about this work as it was progressing.
The idea was to have a hazy light source partially hidden by foliage. I painted in a number of compositional shapes for the top of the foliage to follow but in the end, it was the few darks working with the abundant colors that brought it all together, making a veil, almost without form.
While painting this, I noticed that as the colors combined a flow was also created in all directions across the canvas. To accentuate that, I added the yellow-orange foliage in the foreground, moving the eye from left to right.
Every part of the painting is collecting that soft, calming light with all of the elements pleasantly reaching upward.
