New Work: Green and Yellow Encounter, oil on canvas, 36 x 48 inches

Updated: Apr 11

Exhibiting: Breckenridge Gallery, Breckenridge, Colorado

About this oil:

Rather than creating a natural looking forest scene, I set out to paint something where the color is the main focus. After a lot of experimenting, the idea of the yellow light in the back led me to focus on the leaves being in shadow with a variety of cool colors.

Continuing to maximize the forest colors, I pushed the ground colors but still kept them believable. Those bright, warm tones really set of the cool leaves and yellow glow in the back. The end result is a bright forest arrangement, a dance of patterns that is fresh and new. I really enjoyed walking in that forest during its creation.
