About this artwork:
For this oil I set out to do two things: to set up a series of trees in multiple colors and to do large expanses of green fields and make those greens interesting.
It was an effort with a lot of starts and stops and it took a few months to complete the piece. I thought it was finished twice, but after signing it done and then looking it over again the next morning there were more things that could be done to make the work even better.
Finally, it was finished and signed yesterday afternoon, that is until I looked it over again the next morning… and just like the movie Groundhog Day, it was time to add more to the canvas.
Happily, the oil was getting better with each session and I was fairly confident that this next round would be the last one. The next afternoon I got into the studio fresh and things happened fast. More complexity was added to the green fields and brighter colors to the foreground trees.
In that last session there were a number of small changes as well and each one added to the color intensity, complexity and a stronger presence overall. Tomorrow I’ll be back in the studio where more canvases are waiting to be solved.
