About this oil:
I set out to make a painting of delicacy and color. To start, the arrangement of the tree trunks went in first to establish an intricate pattern and rhythm and everything else followed from there. There is a good bit of background complexity in this piece and as I was creating that framework, various colors were added.
As the painting took on more form, some of the colors began to stand out. The mauve-pinks worked well in the back with the yellows at the bottom. I wanted to have light-colored foliage on the lacy trees in the front and after trials, the pale blue and purple combination was a nice surprise with just the right contrast and glow.
