Oil on canvas, 36 x 36 inches

Private collection

My gracious thanks to the collector that purchased this artwork!

About this artwork:

This forest is the Blue Challenge. I insisted on this blue idea and created this puzzle, so how to make it work?

This painting went through many changes in every part of the oil. It was started over a year ago and proceeded in spurts until I determinedly resumed it again last week.

The bottom of the oil originally had paths, then a steam and finally, a forest floor full of undulating colors. The yellows and the sky at the top changed shape numerous times, adding more interest with each pass.

While all of this was going on, complexity was added to the trees with various brights coming through. In the trees there are at least five blues in play and they are all overlaid with even more colors.

Every move on the canvas is set up to push the glowing blue trees. With the addition of the aqua border at the bottom and the bright yellow cascade at the top, the iridescent blues became even more pronounced.

After those last three sessions over seven days, it all came together, brighter and more interesting than before. After signing this one, I took the rest of the day off!
