About this oil There are those occasions at the end of the day when the light is just so and at the right angle to turn the ordinary into the spectacular.
At the beginning of this oil, I set out create a more unusual color combination with the sky and blue shadows and as the painting moved forward, the hills and trees were still undecided. Moving to the familiar, the trees were begun with golds and greens, leaving the far hill to figure out.
Keeping with the idea of unusual color, I put in the pink hill and that’s when everything changed. Those greens in the trees just couldn’t keep up until the mauves and a heavy application of yellows and orange lit up the oil, leaving only green remnants in the trees and pushing the painting even further. Those last colors happened quickly, just as the last bright light of the day can do.
After the oil was complete and I left the oil behind in the studio, the real world looked pretty dull for a time!
