Brights Merging
Oil on panel, 16 x 16 inches
In the studio, $2150 framed
About this oil:
Growing up in the art business means I've spent a lifetime looking at other artists' work and what keeps pulling me back, what gives me genuine joy, is the interplay of light and color. It's the thing that gets me into the studio every morning.
I'm especially drawn to landscapes, the open sky, the shimmer of water and the way light shifts across a scene. It's an inexhaustible source of ideas, and I never get tired of finding new ways to work with it.
Brights Merging is a small piece, which is a bit of a departure for me. I usually gravitate toward larger, more formal works, but this idea called for something intimate and energetic. The whole point was to let it burst.
The process was pure pleasure: dropping in different colors, one pushing against the next and building a simple composition that rewards a closer look. There's something happening in every corner of this little painting, and that's exactly what I was after.
