About this pastel:

This is a dance.

I am fascinated by the patterns found in groups of trees and for this pastel, I set out to highlight those patterns in an unusual way.

The composition is like a stage where everything is on the diagonal, organized into a stage set. Against that are the random vertical tree trunks that cut through the slanted landscape and provide a vehicle for all of the patterns and colors to burst through.
