Into Fall
Pastel on paper, 15 5/8 x 15 5/8 in. $2150 framed
Exhibiting, Dominique Boisjoli Fine Art, Santa Fe, NM
I began this image as a pastel, which I photographed and had printed as a same-sized giclee. Then I went back over virtually every part of that print with pastel, bringing up the colors, contrasts and making other improvements to create a more striking image. The reworked piece was photographed again, and this final version is the source of the limited edition giclee.
It is an original work of art and this is the last of that group available.
About the work
I set out to do a series of pastels for the four seasons. The others are Into Summer, Green Curtain and Green Lace.
This one is the warmest of the group. At the start, a number of tree trunks were marked in different reds to set the tone and to push the warmth even further, I put in the blue background.
From there it was a free-for-all, with autumn leaves slowly taking over the last of the greens. I really enjoy the complexity of it, all that mark making that gradually became a delicate forest.
There was a nice effect happening in the foreground, a bit of haze, and expanding on that became the final touch. The soft grasses play against the clarity of the leaves.
The piece indicates summer is behind us, and this forest is happy to say so.
