About this image:
There is a blue haze that comes right up to the clearing in this painting. Although it’s fairly dark, the array of transparent blues gives depth and interest to the background, creating an interesting curtain.
Light is streaming in from the left, flowing over the grasses and tree trunks. As it moves across, more color is revealed and it contrasts with the dark, forest background. It’s important for all of the areas and elements in this painting to feel alive. This isn’t really a representational scene; this forest doesn’t really exist but it seems to. This is really a compositional exercise, where light and color come together to make a place of repose.
