About this oil:
At different times of day, and especially with shifting weather, the foothills near my home reveal unexpected layers and patterns that usually go unnoticed. That ever-changing view is what inspired this piece. It gave me a strong reason to create something more expressive, translating that hidden beauty into paint.
 
In this oil, I used a mix of imagined and familiar colors to balance realism with an artistic interpretation. The foothill shapes are more dramatic here than they appear in nature, as if the light coming in from the right is transforming everything it touches with brilliant color and energy.
 
Watching the piece evolve was a rewarding process, as the forms and hues gradually found their balance and came to life on the canvas.
