About this oil:
I enjoy working with large, open spaces like this because they allow me to explore a wide range of colors and that’s exactly what I’ve done here. The presence of a hidden sun adds an extra layer of interest, helping to break up the different blues in the sky and adding warmth and drama to the clouds.
 
Compositionally, the painting is a series of horizontal bands, each filled with its own shapes, colors, and textures. They move and complement each other like pieces of a puzzle, balancing contrasts in a harmonious way. The result is a fresh, contemporary interpretation of a classic Western landscape that is familiar in subject, yet modern in spirit and design.
