About this oil:
This oil is a part of a series that began with a 4’ x 10’ image and a couple of years later, I revisited the idea and began this series of smaller versions.
 
There is a freedom in the foliage and the vertical tree patterns set up a rhythmic structure for the piece. I really enjoy blocking the composition in without any regard to pictorial accuracy. It is the same with the color – all colors are available and they are part of the rhythm as well. 
 
As all of this is coming together, there is another element taking form in a subtler way, the background. As I am painting it, an illusion of atmosphere emerges and it is central to the peaceful quality of this work. It is the soft interplay of colors that create that impression and when combined with the apparent motion of the leaves, it led me to think of a blue breeze
